Hi all,
I just wanted to post on here to let you know who I am and what is going on. I recently bought ImgFly from Chris Garrett. He is working on some new great stuff which I will of course mention once he openly talks about it.
I will continue to work on and develop ImgFly in the same way Chris did, and have made sure that part of my purchasing this site was to get some time with him over the next couple of months so that we continue to see eye to eye on how the site should evolve and progress. During the transfer of the site from his hosting account to mine, you might have noticed some downtime, and I assure you that will be a rarity around here. We also lost around 50 images during the transfer due to a few little “oopsies”, but that will also be a rarity and appologize for any losses you might have had. Please feel free to reupload the image and feel secure in that the site is not moving anywhere, and I will work on a way to make sure if I do need to move it to another host, that it is easy, quick, and without file loss.
I am going to jump right into where I see ImgFly going though, as who I am is less important.
The Future
I want to streamline and simplify the whole free image uploading procedure, while making sure to focus on what is good for the site. Some of the changes I am looking to make is to remove document support, as I find that adding such support has not been looked at favourably by commenters on this blog, and really not in the ImgFly idea. Sure it was nice of Chris to work on such abilities, but I think it is not needed right now, and if there is ever a big calling for it, maybe I will launch a sister site to do just that.
Another thing you will soon notice is that Bitmaps will be removed from the allowed files list, as these files are uncompressed, and will just waste space and resources. There are too many pieces of software to change Bitmaps into Jpgs, Gifs and PNGs, and so that is what we should all be using online.
Hopefully by doing these things we will continue to have a fast and effective service for a long time to come.
I will also be looking at integrating the blog with the site design, so that it all looks and runs like one website, instead of the blog being its own independant element. This might take me a little while, but it will happen, so hopefully you will see that here soon.
If you have any other ideas or thoughts on the direction I should be taking ImgFly in, please feel free to chime in.
